Brahms's profoundly moving Piano Concerto No.1 is an extraordinary peak in the mid-19th century concerto literature, with influences ranging from Bach to Schumann. It is an epic work; come and experience it live in the concert hall!

We are thrilled that this concert will also include the world premiere of Beverley Meadow by Matthew Brown, a terrifically gifted composer based in Canterbury. The CRSO's regular audience members will know that the orchestra loves to engage in the music of living composers. Matthew's work was a great hit with the CRSO membership when it was rehearsed recently, and we wanted to perform it as soon as possible. We think our audience will love it too.

Mahler's delicate, and rarely performed Blumine - a movement which Mahler removed from his Symphony No.1 - and Beethoven's exuberant 7th Symphony complete the programme.

* This evening is sponsored by the Friends of the CRSO and the RVW Trust. The CRSO is very grateful for the support of both of these organisations.

Brahms's magnificent Tragic Overture, which re-imagines the tempestuous character of the D Minor Piano Concerto, begins the final concert of our Chatham season. We are excited to welcome another renowned musician from Kent, the guitarist Andrew Keeping, to perform Rodrigo's ever-popular Concierto de Aranjuez. Rodrigo's work is one of the most significant pieces of music written by a Spanish componser in the early Twentieth Century, and this is the first time that the CRSO has performed this work; the members are really looking forward to it. The CRSO is joined by Rochester Cathedral's Director of Music, Scott Farrell, in Saint-Saëns's magnificent Third Symphony (the "Organ Symphony"). Scott will perform on an instrument supplied by well-known local organ specialist Douglas Henn-Macrae; what an inspiring way to end our season!
